What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on ground fighting and grappling techniques. BJJ emphasizes leverage, technique, and submissions.

Key aspects include:

Ground Fighting: BJJ teaches practitioners how to maneuver and control opponents on the ground using techniques like joint locks and chokeholds.

Grappling: Unlike striking arts, BJJ focuses on clinching, takedowns, and positional control to dominate opponents on the ground.

Submissions: The goal of BJJ is to submit opponents through techniques such as armlocks, chokes, and joint manipulations, rather than relying on strikes.

Gi and No-Gi Training: BJJ can be practiced with or without the traditional gi (uniform). No-gi training emphasizes different grips and strategies suitable for competitions or real-life scenarios where a gi is not worn.

Self-Defense: Beyond sport, BJJ is also valued for its practical self-defense applications, teaching practitioners how to neutralize threats and control situations without striking.
